GIS (GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SERVICES)

GIS (Geographic Information Systems) refers to any technology that collects, stores, analyzes, manages, and displays spatial or geographic data. Each County uses and manages their own GIS system.

For example, Mecklenburg County uses GIS Polaris, which stands for Property Ownership and Land Records Information System.

The Benefits of GIS:

Using GIS is quite intuitive. It is generally an interactive mapping tool that provides detailed information about property ownership, assessed values, sales data, and various layers, including zoning, floodplains, and historic districts. 

This shared geographic information can provide problem-solving and decision making support for buyers, sellers and real estate brokers. It can also be helpful for those managing a property they already own.
